Our fresh cut flowers will be available May through October. We will have several different varieties like dahlias, zinnias, snapdragons, sunflowers, asters, gomphrenas, nigella, cosmos, several beautiful filler varities, and much, much more. We offer many fragrant, beautiful lavender varieties on our farm like royal velvet, grosso, hidcote giant, provence, white spike, and otto quast to name a few. Lavender has many important uses. One of the main uses would be essential oils which has many health benefits including its ability to eliminate nervous tension, relieve pain, disinfect the scalp and skin, enhance blood circulation and treat respiratory problems. Our vegetables will be available primarily May through October. The list of vegetables available is extremely long including some of the following: mesclun mix, cabbage, kale, romaine lettuce, several varities of tomatoes, carrots, beets, radishes, green onions, leeks, cucumbers, peas, squash, swiss chard, peppers and lots more!
Our farm fresh herbs will be available June through October. We will have the following varieties: basil, parsley, cilantro, rosemary, dill, and chives. These particular must-have herbs are essential in preparing tasty, gourmet meals in your very own kitchen. Interestingly, there are many health benefits of herbs as well. Most herbs contain more disease-fighting antioxidants than fruits and vegetables!
Our Christmas trees include over 100,000 Fraser Fir trees grown right on our farm in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains where they originated. Fraser fir was named for John Fraser (1750-1811), a Scot botanist who explored the southern Appalachian Mountains in the late 18th century. We also offer fresh, handmade wreaths and roping during the holiday season too!
We grow 12 different strains of hardneck gourmet garlic. Some of the popular varieties we offer are as follows: music, elephant, german extra hardy, german red, chesnok red, samarkand, killarney red, red rezan, ajo rojo, asian tempest, xian, purple glazer, bogatyr, and pescadero red. Our garlic are grown using sustainable farming practices to ensure the highest quality garlic is available to customers whether purchasing for cooking use or seed for planting.
We grow several different varieties of shiitake mushrooms. We have over 200 logs on our farm that produce mushrooms spring through fall. They are great for cooking or as a relish. The shiitake, meaning “mushroom of the shii (oak tree)” in Japanese, is highly prized in Asia for its flavor and reputed medicinal value. It is a major agricultural commodity in Japan, where about half the world’s supply of shiitake mushrooms are produced.
